 Artist Statement.
The base of my work is a fascination with various materials and their sensual qualities. For instance the quality of a milk container being milky-transparent, light, soft or aluminium can as being shiny, reflective, light, sharp, sets the sensual character for the artwork.
Most of my works are combinations of cut-outs. They result from experiments between positive and negative shape, between form and the space around it. The necessity of light as condition for visuals and space as conditional for physical existence is one of my main interests.
Art works are are two dimensional but in throwing shades and air floating throughout the work, they enter the third dimension. This way they define a space between second and third dimension.
Creating art for me is a practice of imagination (magic). The lucky incident of finding an object or material ( like a dead insect on the windowsill) or searching shapes in an ocean of possibilities are moments that hopefully transcend into my artworks. I’d call it a principle of “everyday wisdom of coincidence”, some might simply call it chance.
Through their materials artworks stay anchored in life. Art Objects retain a quality of familiarity and recognition. This connects to the recipients, to their own experience in everyday life.
